Wisconsin Equal Justice Fund, Inc. (WEJF) is the designated fundraising arm for three organizations that provide pro bono civil legal aid services for the hundreds of thousands of Wisconsin residents who live in poverty: Disability Rights Wisconsin, Judicare Legal Aid, and Legal Action of Wisconsin. These programs are often the last line of defense for low-income individuals and families facing homelessness, unemployment, denial of earned benefits, and devastating poverty.
Ensuring equal justice is a high priority for Wisconsin lawyers. Since its inception in 1997, WEJF has raised over $7 million for Wisconsin legal services. Contributions from lawyers, law firms, and corporations are the cornerstone of our efforts and the catalyst for a growing partnership with private foundations and other organizations.
Contributions to WEJF are invaluable to our beneficiaries because we are the only private fundraising effort for these civil legal aid organizations and private funding is of utmost importance when seeking federal grants. Often, an agency applying for a federal grant must show that it has received private matching funds, sometimes up to 10% of the grant. Therefore, receiving just $10,000 from WEJF’s donors could help one of our legal aid programs obtain up to $100,000 in additional grant funds.
Please consider making a gift to WEJF today to help ensure equal access to justice for all Wisconsin residents.
With gratitude,
Aly Lynch
