Judicare Legal Aid, one of WEJF’s three beneficiary organizations, was recently awarded a $197,041 Technology Innovation Grant (TIG) from the Legal Service Corporation (LSC). The grant will be used to develop a new statewide legal information website, Wisconsin Law Help. Minnesota and Michigan already have similar sites at https://www.lawhelpmn.org/ and https://michiganlegalhelp.org/.
According to the LSC press release announcing the award, “The site will help low-income Wisconsin residents find high-quality legal assistance through a variety of providers, as well as self-help legal information that can empower them to meet their legal needs.” Megan Lee, Communications & Development Director at Judicare, said of the site, “Wisconsinites are struggling to access a legal system developed by attorneys, for attorneys. In order to help all Wisconsinites pursue a fairer result in our legal system, Judicare Legal Aid is thrilled to put this TIG money toward a statewide site providing referrals and, more importantly, easy-to-understand legal information and resources.”
This is a significant step toward closing the justice gap for low-income folks in Wisconsin. WEJF will assist with promoting the new website once it is available.
